Cherokee County, Northwest Iowa | Last winter I borrowed Stanley's spray boom, and made one using his as a template. Used 1 1/4 square tubing, and 3/16" by 4" wide flat iron. my middle section is 45" wide, and the two booms are 34" and 36" (appr.). I started out to put the nozzle bodies on 20 inch centers, but by the time I got done, sliding things around to fit more like 18 and 19 inch centers. The flat iron on one end is 3 1/2" long, and 5" long on the other end. Weld those endplates on so that the square tubing is centered 2 1/8" back from the front. Then make then ends for both booms about the same length, weld some "ears" on the top and bottom of plate to both help support boom when folded out for use, and provide a place to drill hole to put bolt thru, and thru the pipe welded to main center section, to make the hinge. 4 pictures included to help clarify things. Mine isn't perfect, but seems to fold back into itself fairly well, gave me a good project to learn how to run a 110 volt wire welder. Got some springs are hardware store, weld some bolts in place to make it work.
