NE IL | I had a calf yesterday at noon that was really off to a slow start. After trying to get him to nurse from mom unsuccessfully, after awhile he got chilled and ended up spending the night in my porch. Even after a bottle of colostrum (2 diff times tubing) he would barely stand up on his own. I was really frustrated, then I remembered reading on this forum about putting a couple of tbs of instant coffee in with the bottle mix and giving that to him. I figured it was darn sure worth a try. I gave it to him with a bottle of moms milk at about 2:00 this pm. At first I didn't see any results, he just layed back down. I figured it was in Gods hands and went to moving snow for 6 or so hrs. Must to my relief, when I got home about an hr ago he hopped up and latched onto mom for about 15 minutes!
Thanks again guys for the good advice and remember "The key to getting a dud calf up, is Folgers in his cup"!!!! | |
