Mid-Michigan | For those of you who told me to list my tractor on Craig list, you right. I listed here, Farm world, craigslist and Tractor house. I got very few calls. Tractor house gave me all the guys who "have the guaranteed buyers for a fee" deal. I got quite a few calls from Habib who is a "a petroleum engineer out to sea" and would I give him my PayPal account bla bla bla .... Both farm world and tractor house was an expensive waste of time for me. I had the most calls from craiglist. Finally two brothers from Ohio came, kicked the tires, drove it (then in usual farmer way We shot the bull about farming, rent etc. For 2 hrs). They are getting a great tractor and I'm excited to get our new one. Anyway, craigslist got the job done and for free. And Merry Christmas to you and your family also. Mid-Michigan | I had a friend help me. We put it under farm and garden. No you can't put it nation wide. You have to select the areas that Craig's list allows you to. You have to copy and paste to each new area you choose. It took a little while. I chose several places in Michigan and a few in ohio and Indiana. I tried to choose farming communities. It worked for me. Selling it to a couple of really nice guys.

southern MN | Craigslist is set up to be a local selling deal, so they work hard to keep one from posting in many regions. It would water down the ads to be scammers selling to a national audience. This way it remains local ads, of interest to local people. Much better this way. Most folks use Searchtempest.com to customize what they are looking for, can set how many miles away you want to look. If I'm willing to travel 500 miles for a tractor then set that up that way. So when you put in an ad, its not important to put the same ad in 20 different locations.... What is important is to spell thing correctly (John Deere, not John Dear!) and write a bit of a description so if a person is looking for a disk mower, you might want to use the words mower, grass, hay, disk, disc, and rotary in your ad, as people might use any of those in a search..... A little thought goes a long ways. Paul

MO | Can't be, I was told last week on here that no farmers sell equipment on Craigslist, and if they did it must be all junk...:) Good job.

Pasco WA. | A few years ago I sold a tractor on craigslist. Worked great for me. Only had 1 call but he bought it. Really nice folks to deal with too.

Amherst WI | I've had decent luck with CL too. I would use tractorhouse a lot more if they were $50 instead of $200.

ecsd | Craigslist is not "NAT" approved. I have had good luck selling stuff on cl. I have way better luck on cl than in newspapers and even the "Greensheet". I don't bother with anything else anymore. You can't beat the price either! :~)

West Tennessee | NMO Redpower - 12/24/2013 09:00 Can't be, I was told last week on here that no farmers sell equipment on Craigslist, and if they did it must be all junk...:) Good job. I saw that post too and laughed to myself. I had just bought a dozer off of there. Most bigger stuff around here sells locally so we put it on a major highway with a sign and info. Craigslist will definitely generate some calls too.

SW Minnesota | Craigslist works great for me also. I don't know how much equipment I have bought/sold on Craigslist, but it's been a lot. If one is careful about scammers (you will always have some) it is a great advertising medium. And you can't beat the price!

Top middle of MO. land of green hills and grass | I've bought and sold a lot on CL. One suggestion I'd make is set up a new email account for it. I have a yahoo account I only use for CL. When I registered for it I entered "me" for the name and "here" for the place. I used my real name for a while, and when some guy called my house when I hadn't given him my number I got spooked. Only folks that email me their phone number, and a google search or yellowbook reverse lookup checks it out as looking legit get an email or call back. Too much weird stuff in he world for much different. That said, all but one deal turned out really nice and went smoothly.

Saronville NE | I have sold a lot of stuff on craigslist and bought a few pieces too. My JD salesman asked me about and has ben listing things on there as of late and says he cant believe how much he is selling off it vs their regular website, he called and thanked me the other day for having him try it.

candor ny | Have bought a tractor , water heater, 2 trucks and some other small things off craigslist. Sell hay and even sold a elevator a few weeks ago. If its priced realistic it sells pretty easily on there.

West Tennessee | Forgot to add this about CL. One of my guys texted me last night and says "hey boss did you know there is some land for rent on CL?". Sure enough there was. It's out of my area but I'd sure as heck be interested if it was closer. I'm gonna guess it's too high but hey....you never know. If any of you guys are from Haywood or Crockett county TN you might check it out. While I was scanning I found there are some "family farmers" looking to pay big rent in my area too. :-( Yay.

Merry Christmas You can't list on more than a city area, but you can search as big an area as you want to using "searchtempest.com" to search craigslist.

Mid-Michigan | Yes. I was whinning about the lack of calls (and even after lowering my price twice, still not many). After talking to a few people, I found out it is more about the guys budget. My tractor was priced accordingly (after I lowered the price and understood from many of you why I needed to), I just needed a buyer. Found the right guys and budget. They feel they are paying too much, I feel the tractor was worth a little more (typical farmer deal). But we are both happy. I just not much of a salesman. Edited by AGB 12/24/2013 17:00
