MF 4880 fuel tank pinhole leaking near a weld on the steps going up into the cab. Anyone experience this before?
I intend to try seal all until I can finish planting, but how do I fix this properly?

I have tried JB Weld on the bottom of a 20 series JD, and it lasted about 7 years. I have noticed that it started weeping in that area, so it's going to have to be addressed soon. If using JB make sure the area is "squeaky clean" or the repair won't stick.

Actual pinhole, a stainless steel screw with Silicone gasket maker will last forever. Beyond that the kits from the auto parts stores for the tank material you have are easy and work well.

I cannot seem to find the "hole" I think it's more like a crack along a weld. Thank you for the help.

I fixed one with a kit from the parts store, put diesel fuel in it and the patch fell off the next morning. Apparently some of these kits will not stand soybean oil, used JB weld the second time and it worked fine.

Solder it. There is a 4020 in my shed with a fuel tank that I soldered 20 years ago.

central - east central Minnesota -

If the patch kits don't work - taking tank off and having it welded will work. May have to add metal to patch the seam, if it's rusted and not enough metal left to sew together . . . . .
It's more work, but will be done forever.
Could check with junk yard for different tank also? Likely more money, though ~

If you solder do not use a torch. Safer to use an electric solder gun.

On my old Case I used JB weld and a quarter to patch a rust hole. I taped a shop vac to the neck for suction to stop the diesel flow, sanded the patch area and cleaned it with brake cleaner. I applied the JB weld making sure some went up into the hole, and pressed the quarter over it so that it had some structure to the patch. Works great.

Rub lava soup on it , will stop the leak until you finish spring work. mite have to use this once a day.

Callao Missouri
Find the leak, fill the tank with fuel and weld it up. Use a wire feed welder to just spot so you don't burn through. Jon
