red river valley se of fargo | Well, I bought a new toy. Got an old JD 490d. Anyway I was wondering is it possible to over rotate the turn table, as in too many rotations the same direction? Sorry if this seems like an idiotic question.

West Tennessee | LOL. I used to wonder about that too. Like if there were some hoses that would get tangled up or something. I think you'll like the 490d. We just got a 120C last year. You can sure spend a lot of money fast on maintenance. People always say to buy one that's been maintained but those are apparently almost never for sale. Just like everything else we buy the ragged out stuff and set in to work fixing it back right.

Deep southern Illinois | You've got to spin to the right the same amount as left or else you'll unscrew and fall off the undercarriage ********** lol

SW North Dakota | If you turn it too many times in the same direction, it will unwind like a paper clip on a rubber band

West Chazy, New York | I knew a WWII veteran who was a tail gunner. His first day someone told him that about the gun and it took him a little while to realize they were teasing him. He was told that if the gun unscrewed he and it would fall off of the plane.

Somerville, Indiana | thats the same way machinery goes here...good part about that is when something goes wrong we know how to get there at least.

Actually the book for the one I rented said to spin it all the way around every so often so keep the grease spread around. Evidently it will accumulate in some places and be dry in others if you don't. They are probably right because 2 of the ones I rented would bind up no matter how much I greased them. I finally just spun it around till I was dizzy and then spun back the other way and it took care of the binding.

Somerville, Indiana | something is wrong if the turntable binds up, that is a fact.

These were both low hour rental machines. One was a few months old and had almost an all new cab and most sheet metal had been replaced. Concrete chunks and dust was all over the machine. I put about a tube of grease in the turntable to no avail but after rotating it all the way around for a while it was fine the rest of the time I had it. From looking at the machine it was a very real possibility that I was the first or second guy to grease it!

Guelph, Ontario | Make sure you check the grease and oil level in the turntable drive. The 690B we bought was seriously low on grease. You are supposed to use a high pressure grease in there. You add grease rotate the machine several times and recheck the level. Kind of a fiddly job... so I think it gets over-looked. Also when greasing the turntable it is supposed to be greased at all the grease fittings in 15 degree increments.

9020 case calls for 28#of grease added to the turret bearing by hand through a inspection port. Rotate - grease -rotate - grease - rotate - grease , I think in eights. Not sure what the hours for that service.
