St. Clair MN; Casa Grande AZ | My all-night yardlight comes on a couple minutes, and off for ten minutes. It's a cheap one with the blue tint, bought it at Menard's 3 years ago. I hate to climb all the way up the ladder and wobbley pole with the wrong parts. I'm thinking its the electric eye going bad?????

Buy a new bulb and electric eye and replace them both at the same time, it's what I did, still not sure what was wrong, but it works now.

Alberta Canada | Electric eye is causing it to do that. All mine do that after a while, usually do the bulb while I am up there cause once up the shakey ladder in the front end loader is enough. Ours have gotten bad enough before that it looks like a clearance strobe light on the top of a cell tower.

St.Clair Co. IL. | It's the bulb had one do that also put new eye on and still did it, put new bulb in and problem solved, BUT the eye will do the same thing, agree 100% replace both while your up there that way you have it covered. Bob

SE Michigan | Save a trip up the pole. Just replaced mine $10.00 for the eye and $25.00 for the bulb ( sodium vapor ) I belive Mercury's are cheaper (??)

Northeast Indiana (Auburn) | Since you can by a complete fixture for less than the price of the bulb and eye go that route. Put a 120 volt three prong plug on it and then you have a test unit. Relace both while you are up the ladder. If it is not a bad climb take a new sensor up with you then put the old one on the test fixure. I have six of these lights so I always have a spare light and eye plus the ones in the test fixture. My test fixture is mounted above my work bench. It is controled by a switch and adds a lot of light to the bench area.

If the eye sees light reflected from the pole or a nearby building it will turn the light off, then back on, all night. If the eye sees too much sun set it will be slow to turn on, same thing if it sees too much sunrise it will be quick to turn off. The eye position can't be any old position and have the light work right. Gerald J.

Gerald J. just a thought...... we are a quarter mile off of the highway/ county road intersection, when cars came to the stop sign on the intersection, once in a while ones's headlights hit the eye and shut it down for a bit.We had to turn the eye farther away from the view of the intersection.

Huron County | Although not a factor here but be aware that these type of lights are very sensitive to voltage changes that will cause them to restart if there is a momentary voltage drop. Terry

NE SD | Does not your local electric utility come around and fix them? They come fix them for about 25 bucks plus parts (bulb or eye) here. Or replace them with a good one and not the cheapie menards style. NOT WORTH taking a risk falling off ladder.

Northeast Indiana (Auburn) | The only ones they fix are the ones that belong to the electric company. If they did offer to fix a customer owned one they would charge a lot more than $25. AEP will hardly do anything other than to fix the wires between the meter head and the road.

Hagen Brothers farms,Goodrich ND | When mine do that, it's usuall a hail stone or weather / sun has cracked the plastic eye housing and allowed water inside.

North Central Kansas | I guarantee it's the bulb. I've never seen a photo eye go bad like that unless they are hooked up wrong (line and load backwards). Since its a pre wired light and you've had it 3 years, no chance of that. When a photo eye goes bad, it just don't work. When a HID bulb nears the end of its life, it sometimes starts cycling on/off. A cars headlights won't turn off a photo eye unless pointed at it for a couple of minutes.
