Pennsylvania | My late planted sweet corn came up quick, five day after planting, and I didn't get a chance to spray it. For a 30 oz bottle of Impact I was quoted around $600. Any one able to recommend a good spray that is a bit cheaper (a lot cheaper!!) that would not hurt the sweet corn and do a good job on the weeds? Thanks.

Did you put a residual down? We were looking into a similar situation this week. Option is labeled on sweet corn. It would be a post-emergence product. But I still think you will need some kind of residual herbicide, in addition to using Option. (I would think the same would go with Impact.) p.s. what kinds of weeds do you have growing? what size? how tall is the sweet corn? Edited by martin 6/2/2012 13:00

Near-north Ontario, French River | Basagran/Atrazine ( AKA LADDOCK) is an option for post application to emerged weeds, if the weeds aren't emerged yet just put some Dual/Atrazine down ( Primextra) that's probably your cheapest option for a small garden.

Northern Ohio Grain | you might want to check your capreno label. the original label was labeled for sweet corn but the new one is not.

Sweet corn is only about 2 inches high, weeds are very small, I had disced the ground and ran the cultipacker over before planting. Thanks for the replies, I will check the labels.

Near-north Ontario, French River | If weeds are very small chances are a high rate of Primextra will take them out, you could add a low rate of basagran to be sure to smoke'm.

Faunsdale, AL | I think atrazine will have some activity with crop oil on emerged weeds as long as they're very small. If you can spend a little bit, find some Calisto and use that with crop oil and surfactant. Have had very good luck using it tank mixed with glyphosate after broadleaf weeds emerge in field corn. It has a considerable residual, maybe the best of anything other than atrazine. If it's roundup ready sweet corn, then use Halex-GT and atrazine. or the tank mix of glyphosate, calisto and atrazine.

Near-north Ontario, French River | Callisto on emerged sweet corn is a no-no at least according to the processor we grow for. Pre-emerge only.
