Hopefully this stays civil and out of the BR.

This book was brought up in a post here a while back, it sparked my interest so I got a copy and read it.

It is a very thought provoking book and I enjoyed it.

It brought up one question for me though when it talked of "streets paved in gold, and another part that talked of many valuable stones/gems (I think on a throne). I'm not sure if the bible speaks of such things or not, but I couldn't help wondering why "gold & precious gems" would be important to God, or to me for that matter if I was in heaven. Maybe it was my conservative Quaker up bringing, but those are worldly goods, the very thing many sins emerge from.

Your thoughts?......................Mark

My thought is that gold is not important in heaven, and it is walked on, like we would a dirt road.

I think that the mention of gold and precious gems are probably metaphors. Trying to explain the glory of heaven to our human minds.

21st chapter of revelations will give you a literal descrition of heaven and a glimpse of what to expect. My wife read the book aloud while I drove to Mayo in Roch. Mn. for checkups from stage 4 cancer treatments. I believe this book is only a small part of what is to be expected. I am also dealing with my Father who is coming close to the end of life here on earth. He is 87 and in the early stages of congestive heart failure. More than once he has been really confused and unable to carry on a sensible conversation, but when he begins to pray at those times, he becomes totally coherent and in control of his mind. Dad has always lived his life the way paul stated that we should be content in all circumstances of life, whether well fed or hungry, in times of plenty or in need. I believe.

Started reading it at 315 this afternoon and was at page 124 by 440. Put it down to go get the kids. I plan on finishing it tonight. Still kind of skeptical since it was written on the dad's accounts with the child, wondered how much he heard or read in to it because he wanted to

The most interesting part of the book I remember was the little sister who died before she was born.  That brought up all sorts of questions for me.

The part of the book that got me was the picture of Jesus. Can't get that vision out of my mind, and don't want too.

Why do they require extraordinary evidence? Our finite human minds can not even begin to comprehend the workings of the universe that He created let alone the heaven that He created....hence the reason Jesus said we need a childlike faith. The beauty of how God created us is that He gave every one of us freewill... the ability to choose Him or reject Him....

I read the book a couple of months ago. Good book and I enjoyed it. The only thing that would have made it more believable is if the boy's dad would have been anything but a minister. While I was reading the book I sometimes wondered if the Dad was making up the whole story just to win some souls to Christ. Not that there would be anything wrong with that because the end would justify the means.

This was my favorite part of the book. I can't wait for the day that I get to meet our unborn child.

That is my question also. Still like it, can send chills up your spine. I was raised catholic and was sent to church every sunday no matter what, I married a lutheren and started attending that church. We don't go all the time but makes me feel better that there is till hope if Pop made it there. I would rather have a quiet moment to myself to worship, that to go to chruch with some hypocrits. Some people seem to think they can get away with being a bad person as long as they go to chruch on sunday. These are the people that make it hard for me to go. A couple holy roller farmers up here got to church on sunday to ask for forgivness for the screwing they will give you on monday. To be a good christian you have to be everyday just not on sunday. This book solidfies my feelings for that. Great read.

Your dad sounds a lot like mine. About the same age, similar health problems and he never complains, never really has throughout his life that I recall. Next time he's a little mixed up I will mention the prayer idea to him. Best of luck and blessings to you and your father.

All churches will have their share of hypocites, but the important thing is that you find a handful of people that you can have a close relationship with that you trust to help you in your time of need and help them in theirs. But the most important thing is to find a church where you can develop your personal relationship with Jesus Christ, because accepting Jesus as your Saviour is the only way to Heaven.

That's what they say. Evidently, going by what some people seem to believe, that wouldn't preclude him from coming back to life, writing a book about his death experiences, and selling the book on Amazon.com.

Any witnesses? And why would he write a book? That makes no sense. Maybe several other would write the book about him though.

Same here. I Lost my son last april to Muscular dystrophy. He was 19 years young. My wife miscarried a son. I lost both of my boys. The Doctor told us after we found out about Zachs genetic disorder that the other one most probably had it also. I look forward to seeing them both in their heavenly glory.

Hey Barker 4650. I agree with you. I was raised a catholic also. As I got older I seen the same as you. Just remember god has a plan for us all if we believe. Those that ask forgiveness but don't change will not get it. They will burn in eternal damnation. So that thought is what keeps me going.

They may be hypoctites ,but who of us is not a sinner? I do not go to Church for them. I go for myself and my eternal peace. Also we need to pray for them. Maybe if we are examples for them , they will eventually see the light. I would encourage anyone else to do like wise. I have to confess that about 15 years aGO, I was on my deathbed and my mother said that I had died. when I came to the was beating on me and I said . hey, what ? She said that "you died." Well, I did ,and I saw the proverbial white light at the end of the tunnel , heard and saw JESUS. He told me that he still had need for me and to go back. That is when I awoke and began to get better. Since that time I have tried to be like Jesus in everything that I can be and do. I do not fear death any more, and hope I can continue to do and be like Jesus. Idea, I hope you can see the light some day.
