| Looking at a 8760 with 6500 hrs, sync 12 transmission, 20.8 38 tires. What can you guys tell me about this tractor. Would be used for tillage and planting possibly 30' sunflower finishing tool and 23 row vacuum bean planter. What should I look for, (mostly used to Case IH)? |

southern Alberta | When was the last "greenlight" inspection? It is a good unit I have one myself. Things needed to watch, hyd pump issues usually around 4000 hrs, some had problems with the valve seats being too hard and wrecking the poppet valves, and wheel brg free play. Mine is in the shop right now at 4100hrs with a rear wheel brg gone. Chewed up the end of the axle housing and wrecked the planetary gears as the axle was forced inward and out of alignment. It was all good at the inspection 400hrs ago. $3600 in parts as they will rebearing the other side as well, and about $850 at the machine shop to fix the axle housing, plus the dreadded labour $$. This is the only major thing that has ever gone wrong with it. Other than that a few hyd hoses, transmission output seals,1 U joint ,water pump rebuilt and the starter needed to be taken apart and relubed afew yrs ago. If it has been looked after I would not be scared of it. |

| As combine Ken stated, they are a pretty good 300 hp tractor. And pay very close attention to the hydraulic hoses routed along the pivot point. Those were always rubbing as the tractor oscilated. There are cheap little boots that can be tied around the contact points where the hoses rub along each other. You might check with your dealer about those. Best of luck. |

| Thanks, this tractor had fuel pump replaced 3 seasons ago and head gaskets replaced two seasons ago. Guy said he put about 200 hours on it per season last 4 years. Two owner tractor, nothing else major has ever been done to according to previous owner. Thanks again for all the info |

franksville wi | have 11,000 hrs on ours and it will not die never touched the motor or transmission(we have the 24 speed) no axle bearings to speak of, knock on wood. we did have the same hyd pump issues as stated and hoses but with an articulating tractor just expected. Would buy another without even thinking about it. One of Deeres best tractors in my mind. |

| what can guys tell me about the sync 12 tranny?? |
|
|
|
South central IL | Head gasket might be a red flag to me.
The tranny should be no problem other than reduced number of gears. Shouldn't be a problem with 300 hp. Just throttle back until you have the speed you want. Plus it will save fuel. |

ND | Agree the head gasket doesn't look good considering the problems they had with head gaskets on the 8650's with the same engine. I haven't heard of problems with the 60 series as they don't have the engine mounted solid with the frame as the 50 series did. Who knows what was going on to blow a head gasket on this one. |

NW IL | The sync 12 speed is the same as the 24 spd. They just added an overdrive to it to split the gears. |

| I see your looking at 8760 and i will throw this out there. We are looking to sell our 8760 with a 24 speed tranny in case your interested. I personally think that you would like a 24 speed better especially if you are planning to do any tillage work with one. More gear ranges to choose from and if you hit a hard spot you can shift down. |

SE MI | Do you guys think a 30' finishing tool is a little too much for an 8760? My 8960has problems with a 30' sometimes. I have some heavier ground, but the neihbor has an 8760 and wouldn't go any bigger than his 24.5' finisher. Just putting out there. |

NE Iowa | We pulled a 25' 726 Deee finsiher with our 8770 shifted up and throttled back. Just purchased a 31' Sunflower 6333. I thought it would be a better fit. Maybe I'm wrong..... |

SC- Minnesota | +1 on more gears |

South central IL | I would think it would work. I was pulling a 25 ft landoll tillol with my 8200 on flat ground. 8200 only rated 180 hp. It pulled it good. A lot depends on whether you are trying to chisel with it or not. I swear some people must be trying to rip the ground when they talk about how much of a soil finisher they pull. |
