Well, we are starting to wind down the planting. Only wheat stubble left and it's going to be a while. Thundering now, and I got buried in the driest piece this morning. Corn is all up good, and I see nothing but wandering rows. This is our first year with a four wheel drive, but with the 8220 you could always shoot down the rows. Now we've got.............well..........rows with lots of wags in them. I know some guys who run the regular JD autotrac in their four wheel drives and I'll have to talk to them, but I know they'd never put up with this garbage. Maybe it's better on a FWA but I won't recommend it to anyone for a four wheeler. After this year's performance, the regular system will be installed before the upcoming season. End rant!

Out of interest, where does your JD dealer fit in on all this? Do they not offer advice on how to set this up and use?

Chad get the actual hydraulic system installed it is much better, I think my 9200 with the steering components and hydraulic valves will drive as straight or almost straighter than my 8420 with the factory system I think the steering wheel system is a good substitute if there is no other way to get auto steer but if Deere makes the components go that way, but let the dealer install it I thought I would try and save some money doing it myself but it is a pain in the ass it to put in and I still had to have the dealer program it and cost me 900 bucks so my advice is get a quote from the dealer on the cost of putting it in and don't just let them charge you on what ever hours it takes to do it, it could get expensive. Also I am just running SF1 auto on the 9200 and it is almost as good as SF2 with the steering wheel kit and a whole lot cheaper got a key card, display, processor, and receiver for 5800 bucks and works just fine for field cultivating and other tillage passes also would work good in a sprayer would be better than any one driving freehand.

That's what will happen Dennis. We are kicking around the idear of going strip-till with some zone building/deep banding thrown in the mix and would probably go RTK at that same time. Everything is SF2 as of right now, but we will probably be looking into another key card or possibly getting one of the new displays down the road. The universial is probably fine for use on broad acre tillage or solid seeding like we did with the 9300, but for planting corn with the hopes of ever coming back and combining with autosteer it's hopeless. Where my cousin planted with his 8110 the rows look a lot better. It's NOT like we didn't try changing all the different settings in different arrangements. There is just too many variables in a four wheel drive for the ATU to compensate for compared to a factory system............besides that the "humm" of that wheel constanty going back and forth could drive a guy insane.

Uh...........salesman is nonexistant and will never be half the salesman his brother was. Too bad too, they have the best service and parts departments around.

We are feeling a little the same way....we bought the universal for our 8400 pulling a 1790 16/32 planter....Definitely were very disappointed with the accuracy. We could get it close enough to get the job done......but would never plant corn with it. It worked great on our 9400 pulling the cultivator, but that's not really what we bought it for. We were planning on spraying with it on our Hagie 2100, but they moved the approval date back a month already....so who knows when that will happen.....I finally decided I would build my own bracket and install it on the Hagie, heck there numbers don't work anyway....why not start from scratch...that's about how we have done everything else. I have it so it works about 60 percent of the time on that.... with hopes of someday getting it dialed in.... I called stellar support today about the accuracy disappointment and about when our hagie would be approved...but of course...there support is ****, unless your paying the $$, which from my standpoint they should be offering it free of charge for buying their product....We do have one integrated system on our 8410, maybe it just spoils me too much....

We have the universal 0n a 9220. I put NH3 on with it and it worked well. Then the card went to the sprayer. I have finally got it back, but I am now interplanting beans between corn stalks. So I have not been able to use it much, but one field had such crooked rows I set it on an angle and let it drive. The beans are not up yet, but once they are up I will report back. In genreal I am pleased with the universal, I just hope it will work well in the combine cutting beans. In my opinion that is where it will really pay.

Sorry to hear chad are the pins in your 4wd in good shape? I run a 8970 with an atu and plant with a 3pt planter and I got mine dialed in last year perfect I am running the tractor on a pull bar strip tiller so the 8970 is on that and the 7920 is back on the planter.

My only issues was S'ing when I would engage at times but then I figured out that and I was straight all the time I could share my setting with you if you like and you can try them I am currently running it 10mph and going straight I will say that those settings do not work so well running at 5 though

Intergrated would not get me the S'ing at the beginning which is what I hate most otherwise I am living with what I have

Whoa...this was 7years ago. The original ATU was new to the market then. Installed integrated autosteer the next spring and never looked back.
