Schomberg, Ontario, Canada | Just curious to know what guys are getting for fuel mileage using a DT466 in the S-Line IH trucks hauling 8-10 ton of grain? Thanks!!

Embarrass WI | Have a DT466(mechanical) in a single axle truck. Use it mostly for pulling a silage bagger, sometimes for hauling dirt or "stuff". No high sides for grain. Truck gets 5 mpg or less, no matter how it is loaded. It's not geared low, either....will top out near 80 mph on the highway.

West Central, IL | I know mine will use very little going down the highway empty. Once you put a load on it, it drinks it like is going out of style! I can haul 400bu corn on my truck. I have a pup trailer sitting in the shed, and I don't even want to know how much it would burn pulling that thing loaded.

Southern Illinois | My truck is geared low, will just do 55mph at 2500rpm. I didn't think it did all that bad. It would use about 1 tank fillup for every 3-4 trips to the quarry 25miles one way hauling 7ton rock back. Mine is a 180hp engine.

northern MN | I have only done it once, but we had to send a 89 1954 Int Twin screw on a 350 mile round trip once. It got 8.25 mpg for the trip. We run 6 trucks during beet harvest, on average loaded and empty I figure 5 mpg and am close most years on 24 mile round trips with over 1200 loads annually. our trucks now are all 330hp and up hauling 20 ton on average mostly M11s. The dt 466 was the most economical engine we have ever used during beet harvest.

Mixing 2% soy or veg. oil with the road diesel has eliminated our pump problems...Don't know if it's the added lubricity or the cleaning properties, but so far has made a big difference,,

Macon, IL | I haul about 550bu a load-so more like 24 tons loaded-13 tons of grain. Average over about 1500 miles this fall was about 6 mpg. That was with an automatic transmission, 80% country roads with some small hills. Half of those miles would have been empty.
