There were some of the eariler 630F's that had to be updated with new augers. I think it was all taken care of by JD. It been awhile ago however. Would hurt to give your SN# to your dealer and ask some questions.

Our 2-2005 heads did the same thing after about 4500 acres each-- we welded them and then put a small support across each just to get through the year then they were traded. Make sure before you weld them you get the auger strait or it will keep hitting the strippers when the head is empty, and also with reinforcing it by adding steel you might have to add some steel to the other side of the auger to help keep it closer to balanced. Its worth a shot to ask a JD dealer about any help they can give you.

Theres welding shop in decatur, al that specializes in some sort of fix kit for JD augers. I think its called lightning welding service (256) 227-0570. They had a nice printed brochure on what they did to fix them, or the kit they sold but I seemed to have misplaced it. I really don't know anything about them, but might be worth giving them a call.

My FIL’s 930 did the same thing, the crack lined up through the inspection plate and through one of the holes for the finger, and here I thought a crack wouldn’t jump a hole. He had a new section welded in the center of his at a welding shop in Ohio. Can’t remember the name of it right now. When he went down there he also took the neighbors auger out of his 925 with him that had the same problem. He just exchanged them and was on the road in a few hours.

It was done in Sandusky so there is a pretty good chance it was them. Ran 1500 acres through it last year with no problems. They put about 8 feet of new tube in, welded the whole thing, not a bit of warp or wobble to it.

We have never had much luck welding cracks like that. We have tried drilling holes at both ends and welding the crack and welding plates over the cracks. I hope you found it early enough that these fixes might help, but it seems to me welding weakens the auger tube and it just breaks again around welds.
