Bartlett TX | Jim, we had one for a few years. They worked good under the right conditions. If the blades were sharp, the corn stalks were DRY DRY, and 12 mph+. As the blades get dull, they dont do very well. In the mornings if there was a dew, it would just knock down the stalks, not chop much. Bearings were an issue too, seemed that not greezing them at all, or about a shot of grease per week made bearings last longest. We have some fields where the texas pannican is a constant battle, the chopper does not like grass. Wraps around the berings bad, even had the factory make us some cutter knives to run and they helped a little. We sold ours and i wouldnt buy another one. alot of people around here have a pull type model that is old school single strait roller chopper. We went to geringhoffs. Ours was a Strobel, but i dont think brand would matter, all same concept. | |
