Subject: Population monitor options for JD 7200

I picked up a 12R30 7200 pretty cheap yesterday, but it doesn't have a monitor. I've done some looking and I see some 250/350 monitors for sale, but askings prices are up there with a new monitor from Dickey-John or Sensor-1.

Does anyone have feedback on the Dickey-John or Sensor-1 units? Also, if I go with a population monitor, I don't have radar. Do I have to use one of the hockey puck gps units, or could I use an old Garmin I have laying around for speed?

This will probably be the first of many questions on this planter. It's replacing a 7000 6R30, and is set up for liquid so I've got some studying to do before planting season.

Thanks.

If you have a Insight monitor you can use that for your planter monitor with the proper unlock . That option still might cost the same as a used 250 monitor though.

Northern ILL.
I bought a dicket john pm 300 and use my raven radar. I didnt know if it would be very accurate or not, but it showed one row to be low population compared to the others so i checked and found seed plate with small kernel lodged in hole. Seems to work pretty good Ag express sold me the monitor and needed cables. Im happy with it.

I bought a Sensor 1 for my 7200 and it works good in corn but way off in beans. I don't know if they all don't read high populations or not. That's what Sensor 1 people told me though. I also have a 250 I got with the planter but haven't used it so I can't compare.

sc ia
We have the same planter and use the jd 200 from our old 8 row 7000 planter. We use a centerline 220 for speed signal.
