Looks good. When I was in high school I worked for the neighbor one summer. They got a brand new 5088. I think it was 1982. If they would have put a magnum cab on them in 1982 think of the difference it would have made. Is that a 605 Super M hooked to it? That will make it smoke.

Dad bought the tractor in '87 and its just been a darn good tractor and it greatly deserves this makeover. I figure it this way if we can have a tractor that looks and feels like new for a fraction of the cost of a new one its worth it!!! Its just an M baler but you get it into cornstalks and it will make it snort:) I took it through a local parade today so that's why the baler is hooked up, but this fall it will see baler duty on cornstalks.

Didn't some of the 88's have the HD square front axle? You should be very proud of a well done job. Wilson
Yes they did. It was a option. I think it was available in all years for the 88 series, but I could be wrong. Seems like more of the tractors from the south had the option than ones farther north. They are few and far between in Illinos.

I ordered a cab kit from Fehr Cab Interiors and it was a great fit and then I ordered some bulk western brown material from Fehr and custom made my own door panels. The darker paisley brown I got at a hobby store to make it two tone and give it some class!! I am considering making these door panels available if there would be a market.

Man that is a "restore"! I dream of starting a farm very soon and thats the model I have my heart set on. Im glad to see you can really make them show room new again. It looks like you even put new decals in the cab or were they in good shape to begin with? What was the hardest thing you had to find when redoing it, the decals, interior, chrome? Thanks and be proud of that work.

I was able to still get decals all the way around inside and out so I took pictures of the locations of all the misc. decals to get them back in the same spot. The hardest part of the project was prepping the cab inside and out. It did not fit in my paint booth and our shop is not lit very well but I managed. The most fun job of the whole project was putting the stripes on. It was the last thing I did and I took my time. What I did was use a laser transit in our poorly lit shop and marked the front where I wanted them and the back where I wanted them and spun the laser to mark exactly where to put the stripe. I then used some masking tape and taped right on the laser mark and then I was able to "float" the new stripes on with water and then squeege the water out to get all the wrinkles and bubbles out. I had thought about this for a long time and I think that this the way to do it to get them straight. Thanks for all the compliments.

It was always just a good ole tractor just getting worn. It was perfectly straight just needed a makeover. I had to find new sheetmetal for it because I took it to get soda blasted and instead he sand blasted it and ruined the original sheetmetal. I found some in perfect shape in Wisconsin and the rest is history!!

Where did you get the western interior for the doors? Is that custom made? I am working on one myself. The seat and western foam interior look like they came from A&I. What did you use for paint? It sure looks nice

That's 'my' version of the western door panels that I came up with. The cab kit came from Fehr Cab Interiors, the seat was refurbished by Hy-Capacity, and I used DuPont base/clear for paint on the sheetmetal and interior and then I used Nason Fast Dry single stage for the chassis black.
