Alternator is putting out between 50 and 60 volts but it is not reaching the batteries. Only 12 volt at batteries (not charging). Batteries eventually get too weak to start truck. All gauges seem to be working ok (nothing burned up). Never heard of an alternator putting out that many volts. It's a Delco- Remy and I assume it has an internal regulator. It has three wires going to it. 50-60v on the big main wire. 12v on one of the smaller wires, and basically nothing on the other.
Is there some sort of fuse between alternator and batteries. Obviously I need new/rebuilt alternator but what else do I need to check to get charging current to go to batteries? thanks. | |
