Am looking to buy a 4 wheel drive used tractor with pto. Am considering a JD 8760. Would like feedback for or against. Thanks for your input.

Gutless dogs. Had one for 10 years. Friends is the same way. Find a 9250 Steiger.

I can find plenty without a pto. Local JD dealer tells me one is $12000. Gonna keep looking.

Ours has been good. They are only 260 HP though so depends on what you will be wanting to do. 20.8/42 tires would be an improvement over the 18.4/42's we have for tillage work (also would help on the power hop). Use it on the grain cart and it seems pretty good on fuel but PS transmission would be a plus for that. Our 24 speed is having shifting problems now due to too much gear jamming while on the cart. This tractor was a huge step up from the 8640 it replaced as far as reliability and ease of service.

We bought one new in 1990 traded two years ago on a 9320. We put 8000 hours on it. Used to pull air seeder and 21 foot chisel plow. The 9320 Has alot more power But I like the smaller hood on the 8760. It was a real good tractor for us.

They are as rare as hen’s teeth, for sale! And even fewer for sale with the power shift and PTO.

Have a 91 model good tractor it is a bare back 12k+ hours most trouble free tractor we have.
Mine has 12 sp power shift don't really like it not enough gears but ok 24 is better option.
Just put new shoes on her went from 18.4's to 20.8 by 42 R1W tread really made a tractor out of it.
Its our only tillage tractor pulling 9 bottom plow, 15 shank chisel and 30 foot cultivator
Iv'e got 40k in it now and am happy with it..

What is different on the finals? We put bearings and seals in a 8770 and only had to pull the hips on the ones needing replaced. I may be confused as to what you're calling a final drive, or did they change it back on the 70 series?

did they make a power shift in that series?? I thought they were all 12 or 24's. You can swap a pto out of any 60 series up to the 9000 series. And I was quoted 10 - 12,000 for one. Maybe a wrecker???

We bought one last year and love it, plenty of power for what we are doing. it has 20.5x42 tires and I think they are better than the smaller ones also 24 speed which shifts nice and has plenty of ranges. never have had a power problem but could use a little more weight sometimes. Pull a 10 bottom plow, and 40' cultivator with no trouble.

Oh is that right Alan? How is that pup doing super trucker? I figured with your 50 truck fleet in Kansas you would know how to take a corner by now. LOL.

A 300 hp steiger will run circles around a supposed 300hp 8760. Been there done that.

We have a 9230, and agree, it would pull an 8760 in circles. Let's see...the 9230 is rated at 325hp and the 8760 was rated at 300 with a bigger motor. Shouldn't be much difference, but I'm called a liar for telling the truth?

Maybe your 8760 was a lemon Chad, everyone else seems pretty pleased with theirs.

I have heard there was a chaffing problem with some lines on the 60 series but after this many years I am sure they have been retroed. The 8770 is 300 pto where the 8760 is 260. I like my 8770 with the 24 speed, and I dont think they are much more than the 60 series. Maybe a guy could find a pto on one of them.

Friends 8760 is the same exact way ours is. There was no problems, that 10 whatever liter motor they had in them was just a pooch when compared to other 300hp tractors. The 70 series was better.

You have the wrong kind of 9230 there.

Better check again. 4wds are rated by engine hp.
