nw NC | Deer are grazing my June 6 & 7th planted silage corn badly. It popped out of ground quickly to an excellent stand and for most part was growing fairly well despite being so dry and hot last week. Had .7 inch rain shower yesterday that will help much for a few days. I went to fields at daylight this morning to run deer away. I was sickened to see how much the _ _ _ _ things damaged last night. They must be getting really hungry due to dry weather. Always had them nibble on the perimeter row a little when corn was small, but never has been so much grazed over entire field.
It seems that in years past, any grazed on small corn grew but was stunted for life. What are opinions on my corn making much growth? I've read reports and seen pictures on AgTalk of corn badly damaged by hail making incredible regrowth and yields. Hope mine can.
