Subject: Preferred Baleage Crop - Rye vs. Triticale

SW Iowa
Right now we get along great with drilling cereal rye post-harvest, round baling, and inline wrapping the hay in the spring. We have started doing away with dedicated hay ground to not give up corn/soy ground acres. My question is I have heard a lot of talk of triticale being a possible better fit for our forage choice. My question is about the differences in feed value, the window of opportunity to bale, time till maturity, and things of that nature that would change if switching to Triticale. Location SW Iowa
