Malwarebytes is a decent one with a free trial that, if you don't want to pay, you can download once a month and run. If you are really worried, Norton is hyper-protective sometimes to the point of being over protective.
Keeping your system up to date and using common sense is half the battle. Common sense would say that an up to date system and known true software is safe, but it is possible for one to, as an example, open a picture in a email from a family member and get something that way, or downloading software from a known good site can get you something, if that known good site is infected and no one has noticed. Zero day exploits are also a thing, which people are unlucky to be affected by it, where problems are found in up to date software and taken advantage of before an update can be made, tested, sent out, and applied. | |
