Subject: Public Service Announcement - New Deere No-till Drills/Air Seeders

Arva, Ontario
Good morning.

Visited with a friend in the mid-south that had planted a couple days of rice and soybeans with a new Deere N500 CCS air seeder.

All of the LEFT SIDE main opener arms had a defect that made the whole unit track off center making the trench wider than it should be, the firming wheel not run in the trench, and the closing wheel run a couple inches off where it should be.

My eyeball opinion is that the two holes machined into the casting that contain the replaceable bushings and pin are not square to the length of the arm. The arm is not 90 degrees to the rockshaft.

If you have purchased a new no-till drill for this spring, go give it a look before you go to the field.

The short term “fix” for this unit was a shim where the mounting bracket for the main opener arm goes on the rockshaft.

Hope quality control caught this before it got too widespread.

Please dispense with the arm chair quarterbacking about who and why for now. Let’s just go diagnose whether others have a problem and get it resolved before we’re in the field.

Enjoy the day which has been provided for us.
