I've never used this waterer and I'm trying to get it working. I'm not sure what, if anything, is supposed to create a seal between the supply line riser pipe, and the elbow fitting. The 3/4" elbow fitting slips on the inner pipe. Then the 1 1/2" locking ring threads onto the outer pipe. It seems to me that there should be more of a seal than the friction fit of the two pressurized parts. They can't be glued together as the shutoff valve is located inside the thermal tube below the waterer. So in order to shut off the waterer, I have to shut down the main line, drain the waterer, remove the valve, and then unbolt and remove the tub from the concrete pad. The pipe connection has never been permanent. I don't see a name anywhere on the unit. Just guessing it was installed in the 80's. Anyone encountered this setup before? 56676 | Can't help with that particular waterer, but it seems like the 3/4" pipe and fitting should be glued together.

Eastern NE KS | What make and model is the unit? If unknown, maybe it can be identified by it lid/top. Please add a picture of these parts.l to this thread. Edited by Doug61 1/26/2024 16:18

Isn't that an O-ring below the nut below your thumb?

Gregory SD | Looks like a mirofount. We have one just like it. The 3/4 inch pipe should be glued to the elbow with the valve and the rubber washer tightens to the 1 1/4 pipe with the hand nut., seals the water from going down into the pit. Dave

You could glue a threaded fitting on it and screw a hose barb on then run 3ft of flex hose down the pipe and hook to the valve. Stuff would be some what move able then.

Eastern NE KS | The tank looks like a Mirafount. I spent some time looking for installation instructions but those found are newer models with different water much larger heat tube that serves as a mount for the valve. We have the newer design with a much larger heat tube. With it, I can remove the valve from the elbow leaving the elbow on the supply line. Then I can lift the tank away for access to the heat well. I mention this because if you glue your parts together, the elbow will have to be cut away from the supply line. No big deal but this might explain your challenge. I think the second PVC pipe is used to access inline valve down in the heat tube. One diagram suggested used a rod to open or close this underground valve. Good luck to you. Like other notes, I think you will glue things together.

East of Broken Bow | Pretty sure that is a Mirafount The 'proper' way to have it setup is to glue the elbow to the top of the riser pipe. Everything should be situated so that you have a 1/4 turn ball valve, with drain that sits directly below the second pipe. To turn water on and off, you would use a tool that goes down the 2nd pipe, and engages the valve. The Mirafount waterers are meant to have the bottom permanently mounted (and well sealed) to your pad, with all routine work done from the top by removing the lid. If using the waterer a lot, this would be the way I would go. If you don't want to do that, the suggestion of the flex line seems like a good one. Glue it together to reach the bottom of the waterer, and have a loop of flex line/hose go down from there long enough to lift the waterer up. Look at how the Cobett waterers are set up, with a loop of flex hose, valve, and a quick-coupler right there as well, so you can remove the waterer easily. This way should work, and be the cheaper and easier way to go. The way the Cobett works is the pipe elbows down, and the hose makes a loop, just dropping down as you lower the tank/basin. If you click on the link, they have a kind of cutaway diagram of how the waterline is oriented on the home page. https://cobett.com/ Click on 'photos' of either model to get more pics and a better idea of how it all goes together.
