Southern Minnesota | As the season grows on I am still disappointed with our exact emerge update. Its July 20 and the effects of uneven planting depth are very evident. This spring we noticed seed on top as well as seed planted at wide range of depths. We tried to over come this by tightening our seed bowls, widening out our closing wheels (yetter twisters), and trying a variety of speeds. I did notice that soil type did effect the planting depth and our conclusion was that the disk openers are lifting the sidewall and throwing up the seed. This, I've been told, is common because the disks are wider to accommodate the brush cartridge - still frustrating.
So, I'm thinking to next year.. Curious if seed firms are a PITA or if they would help. Or are there other options? Trade? ha | |
