| Looking for some input on issues with a 2014 case ih steiger 400 and brand new 2021 58' Case 400 flex hoe, baisically a Flexi-coil 5000 seeding tool. This might be a long one due to lots of details and testing, so bear with me.The problems we're experiencing is the drill settles to the ground relatively quickly when fully raised (it only takes roughly 6 hours for the tool to go from fully raised to fully lowered when left hooked up to the tractor), but more importantly this is allowing the drill to be raised out of the ground going down the field in areas of hard ground where the drill is trying the "ride out." To explain this better, when we lower the drill into the ground at the beginning of the pass it goes to our desired depth , but after say a quarter mile the drill is no longer in the ground the desired depth but is now shallower. The drill then can be raised slightly then lowered back into the ground and it will again be at the desired depth for a short distance. (Having to raise the drill first before it will go in is due to the poppet style depth stop on the seeding tool. This is normal I believe.) The settling is definitely worse when the oil is warmed up especially on hotter days.
The tractor has four hydraulic remotes and all of them seem to be experiencing the same issues, it is not specific to the remote we typically use. That being said, our fan seems to work properly as the speed remains very consistent. It seems as though it should be the seals in the depth cylinders on the tool but when disconnected from the tractor the tool will stay up for days and never settle more than an inch.
Here's what the dealer has done so far to try to correct the problem. First they put a kit in the coupler on the tractor thinking it was leaking by here. After that didn't work, they replaced the entire valve assembly on the same remote thinking the check valves must be damaged and allowing oil to leak back to the tractor. (Before replacing this they did do a pressure test on all remotes and they saw similar leakage on each but it didn't seem to be excessive.) So we now have baisically one new hydraulic remote yet this hasnt seemed to help much or at all. Just for the heck of it we tried a different set of male hose ends to no avail. By the way, there are no leaks anywhere on the air seeder, it is a tow between model if that has any relevance.
We believe the problem is in the tractor still because we ended up hooking up this air seeder to the neighbor's Case steiger 375 and it held the seeding tool upright for days. At the same time, we connected our tractor to his 70ft Case 700 hoe drill and it to settled to the ground too. This tool has a totally different design and we saw the same issues is why we are nearly certain the problem lies in the tractor.
We are getting tired of dropping money on trial and error thats not working so if anyone has experience with implement settling issues with a Steiger tractor of this age I would love to hear what you found to be the issue. It just doesn't seem normal and there should be something obviously wrong for a seeding tool to go from fully raised to on the ground in a matter of a few hours after parking it. Thanks in advance for any input! | |
