Texas/New Mexico Stateline | I never thought I would say this but I had a good experience calling into the IRS. I got a letter saying I had not paid my Federal Excise tax for my Heavy Vehicle Form 2290. Well, looking at it I had stupidly put the wrong tax ID number on the form, AND my check.
(((Dumb, dumb, double check everything dummy, then triple check it before you mail it in.)))
After a full 10 minute wait and pressing '1' for english, '1' for this, and '1' for that, a very bored, but professional sounding lady came on and asked me a couple questions. I explained my problem to her. She said,
"Do you know what wrong number you used?"
"Yes, it is xx-xxxxxxx" (-one digit off)
wait.......click, click, (typing noise)
"I found the money that should have been applied to your account, please hold one moment"
.......one minute wait tops........
"Thank you for waiting, ok, that money has been applied to your account, you will receive a notice in....blah...blah....."
Me:"Do I need to file an amended form?"
"No, this should take care of it, all we were needing was the money applied to your account."
As far as technical problems could go with IRS this surely had to have been one of the least painful. |
