Subject: Homemade Y drops

Morris, IL
So i'm in first stage or two of this, just planning and designing them, looking for any help i can get. I have an idea in mind what i'd like to try, something very similar to nutraboss seems like something i can build with minimal tools. I have few questions for owners of any manufactured or homemade Y drops or even just regular drop system in 6' corn, is my boom on JD 6500 going to handle the pull back? For those not familiar it's a Hardi boom JD used, they are not a triangle truss boom, just a single frame truss. This is it. http://www.hardisprayer.com/images/EAGLE.jpg I'm little worried about the wings and especially the breakaway wanted to trip back, this will be skip row for sure, what do you think, never been around any so not sure how hard they pull.

So what i'm thinking for building them is starting at the top something like Jared did with his that turned out great i think. http://talk.newagtalk.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=528802&mid=432... He seems to have a very nice mounting system, simple, cheap, should be easy to remove couple of clamps and section comes off. From there down i'm thinking either PVC or SS pipe (for more weight) in 1-2' sections with couple/few flex joints of hose similar to nutraboss. Bottom i'm thinking all SS with a built in angle back as i think that will help limit drag on the boom. I'll either put Y fitting right at the bottom or just run two hoses from the boom down the drop tubes. Now's the part i have more questions. What size should my Y be built out of? Thinking those drops should be maybe 1/2" hose to 2x 3/8" hoses. So i really need 3/4" ID i think. I've found a source for 3/4" ID 1/16" wall or 1/8" wall, which should i go with you think? Or am i all wet on these sizes and such? Thinking the 1/16" wall is pretty thin to be dragging near the dirt all day, then again i figure 1/8" wall would be pretty hard to bent with my conduit bender. I have access to a pipe bender and all sorts of cool metal working tools if needed just mile or two down the road. Thinking of cutting a triangle with a bend in it for the Y piece, put maybe a 110-120 degree angle in it, non sure on that? But i think best if i can leave the exposed for running the hoses and such. Thinking those tubes will extent out at 45 degree angle give or take, i'll bent it back square and put drag hose on the end.

Any help, ideas, or tips here are very welcome, i don't have this figured out at all these are just my thoughts. I'm thinking i'd like to build 12-14 of them is all for my own use only. I just can't justify buying factory built for acres i'll cover, i'm really not even sure Y dropping UAN is right for our farm but if i can build some with under 1000 tied into materials it's worth finding out. I'd like to try these late in corn and maybe even some N late for soybeans. Thanks in advance everyone.
