When someone near and dear is looking for a reason that they cannot do something..........consider showing them the example below. Middle son-------- the one handicapped from birth........full body braces, walks with a walker.........just shot his first bull elk in CO. Below is an excerpt from his "newsletter", plus a picture. He did say that it was a little spooky before the sun came up-------kept wondering if he could hit a moving cat fast enough, since he knew he couldn't outrun one, and there had been a couple instances in the area. Shows what can be done if one really wants to do it. Kid has 'nads. ************************************************ I happened across this little fella on opening morning Oct 16 at about 7 a.m. Just north of Meeker, CO. He was the 4th bull we saw that morning and about the 15th elk. As the sun rose we had 2 small mule deer bucks butting horns about 100 yards from us for about 10 minutes. Fun to watch. We saw lots of other mule deer and had one doe stand at about 200 yards and watch us field dress this elk.
We were in a rimmed canyon and the guide and I were hiding beside the Polaris ATV which was covered in camo tarp. We could hear the elk screaming on the other side of the rim and just as planned the guide called to them and they came right over the rim into our valley nearly one by one. We waited for the one the guide thought we should take and at 250 yards I pasted him with a 160 grain Barnes Tipped Triple Shock fired out of my .338 WM. The bullet was recovered and as you can see did its job. 100% weight retention. The bull went straight down.
We had great weather in the 30s/40s at night and 60s/70s by mid afternoon each day. It was 29 degrees out opening morning.
As always we made some good friends at the elk camp and of the 10 hunters each one took a bull. Some a little larger than mine, some a little smaller. Mine is about average size for this area.
