Sitting here with time on my hands, wondering about something. Couple of years ago a landlord who lives several states away wanted to clean up his old farmyard area. Had an old dodge 1 ton truck, a case 580 ck backhoe, and several small 3-point implements well worn out, rusty and broken. The dodge was pretty well trashed, windows all shot out and hood left up on it, just pretty well rusted out. No idea how long it say. The hoe was in average shape then, had been sitting approx 2 years then and was parked due to the flywheel being bad and wouldn't start anymore. Was otherwise working then aside from leaking 2-4 gallons of hydraulic a day or so from various leaks. He wanted everything scrapped, and I told him I'd load it all and take it off if I could haul the hoe to my place. He told me I could haul it all to my place if I wanted, I passed on that and scrapped the rest for him. Fast forward, the machine has been sitting outside one of my sheds for another 3 years, so it's not done anything for 5 now. The engine is not suspected of being seized, think the flywheel (if even that) will solve the start issue. Front tires are foam-filled, so alright. Both rears are flat, one was already and the other has gotten that way over time and are well dry-rotted, 34's I believe. Looks like every hose to the hoe will blow the section pressure is applied as well, so factor that in. So, IF I can get it running with a flywheel (turning it around won't work on these I don't think), new lines, rebuild the valve stack, maybe some used tires for the back, what would be a reasonable amount to spend on this before it wouldn't be worth it's value? How bad is a backhoe to split to do a flywheel and a clutch while I'm in there?
