NW Iowa. / SW Arizona | I didn't know if I should post this on the Cafe or Machinery forum but I'll just try this one. I'm going to put some Decra (steel)shingles on my attached attached garage. The guy from the lumber yard I bought them from highly recommend taking off the old shingles ( one layer)first before putting these on. He said he would if he was going to do it for his roof. I know of a few people that have applied them over other shingles without any trouble. I was just curious if any of you out there have applied them over existing shingles have you had any troubles with them. I know the company says you can go right over existing shingles. But the west side of my roof has really cupped up tabs on the old shingles & I'll have to knock them down first anyway. I made the mistake of using the cheap three tab shingles 15 years ago. You learn from your mistakes.
This will be my first time putting Decra shingles on so I don't want to regret not taking the extra effort now if it will last longer down the road. But I hate taking off old shingles also :-(.
Any comments are appreciated. T.I.A.
