tennessee | I have been thinking bout this for the last year or so...im 60 yrs old and nobody coming to take over farm. I have 2 daughters that have their own careers/lives so they're not gonna farm. One grandson that might have interest but i just dont want him to have the stress ive had over the years. My great aunt and uncle bought this place in the 40's when an average working man could still buy land. He was a carpenter and she was a teacher. He died in 1970 from lung cancer and told my aunt before he died that he wanted his half of the farm to go to me, they had no kids...she left the other half to my brother who has passed from cancer as well. His 2 kids own his half. She told me if i ever wanted to sell to do it...dont let this farm cause you a bunch of stress. Ive kept it and farmed it since my 20's. Now life looks a little different at my age. It will be sold when i die cause my kids have no need for it and my brothers kids have no need or feelings about it one way or the other...id love to travel with my wife and see the world before we both die. Am i crazy for thinking about selling this farm? Wife thinks i am! I think might as well enjoy some life before we leave here and it gets sold anyway...lots of emotions involved here for me. I grew up running around this farm and have lived here since 1991. Man its a hard decision. We would never have to worry with money again and could leave our kids a nice amount if we go this route. We do own another 55 acre place a few miles from here and would most likely build another small home there...what ya'll say? Have you ever sold a farm and regretted it? Im torn in half about this! Sorry for long post.
