SW WI | I don’t know what side of the fence I’m on here.
Our fire district serves 4 municipalities. 2 villages, 2 townships. My township chairman is upset with the fire districts request to buy a new fire truck. Right around a million. Split 4 ways but I’m not sure if it’s equal 25% or some population or mileage factoring into it. Anyway, our township’s share would be either side of 250k. Chairman thinks nothing wrong with old 1 they would replace. 96 model with 28k miles. His reasoning is he has a business that runs heavy trucks and says “ if I had a truck that only had 28k miles on…I would feel like I had a new truck”. He also says if a fire breaks out at some of our remote areas, doesn’t matter if they have a close to 30 yr old truck or brand new truck, probably aren’t getting there without significant damage occurring, just hard to access, either way.
What are some pros and cons here. I want the department to have well working equipment but we don’t need to spend money needlessly, either.
Give me your opinions.
