Subject: Anyone had surgery for heartburn?

Edson, Alberta, Canada

I was wondering if anyone here has had surgery to correct GERD or heartburn? The docs are talking to me about it as I have been on meds for years and the meds are starting to not control my heartburn anymore. What was the surgery like and what was the outcome? Better than before? Still on the meds?
They want me to go completely off my meds for two weeks and they want to thread a little wire down my throat through my nose and it stops just above my stomach. Then I carry this thing around for two weeks and they can somehow measure how bad the acid problem has become. I'm not scared of surgery but the thought of two weeks with nothing to control my heartburn is ugly. That ain't gonna happen. If the surgery makes a big difference and I don't have to take meds anymore then it might be worth the pain and trouble.
Regards,
Dave.
