Subject: Heinz 57 stain revisited....

So I tried about everything imaginable on that stain....even dabbing brake cleaner.

The only thing that brought a little of it up was baking soda with lemon juice dumped on top. Turns out, it's not really a stain, more of a dye as 57 sauce contains Turmeric, which is also what gives mustard it's yellow color, and will stain everything it touches...including countertops, and tupperware, etc. Talked to some local carpet cleaners and mentioned mustard and they said forget it.

I ran across a patent on Turmeric stain removal mentioned that Turmeric fades under UV rays over time and the method they used was soaking the stain with hydrogen peroxide somewhere between 3 and 10% and letting it dry under a "sunlight lamp". Just so happens I had access to a sunlight lamp and a bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide. After 12 hours under the lamp the stain was so faint you could hardly tell it was there. I think one more light treatment and drying will completely remove it.
