thumb of michigan | i have a post and beam barn that is pretty rough. roof is good though so i want to try and save the barn. it has the usual non existant foundation and some beams are rotted off where they sat on the ground. i was thinking of easing it back straight with a couple cables anchored to a couple poles and taking up a little slack each day over time. for the poles i was thinking of digging a post hole on the left and right side of the beams and putting in a treated or maybe white oak post and sandwiching the old beam and running a long bolt through in several spots and tightening them up. anyone done this or have some other tips or ideas? no foundation other than some rubble and rocks to speak of and the barn does not have a floor in it, just dirt and one level. it is about 34 by 60 or so hip roof. | |
