Northeast Iowa | My family just moved into our new home a couple months ago. Happily 1 mile from my folks farm and on my own land. Drilled a well and am drinking the same water I grew up with.
My wife is concerned about our nitrate level from the well. It was 17ppm and 19ppm on our tests from the county. We do have 3 kids under 10. Normally, I wouldn't think too much about it but I'm convinced we can do better.
What should I do?
Wife has had culligan out and they quoted us $15,000 for a system. She had a competitor out, and they quoted $12,000. These are reverse osmosis systems.
The alternative I'm seeing is to hook up to rural water for a fat fee every month and essentially wastes my new well I'm so proud of.
The well is new, 120 ft deep, pump placed at 80. If I had well driller come out and make it pull from deeper, would that fix it?
Can I fix it in my house for less than $5k? I've read a little about special resins and filters that can remove nitrates, but nothing to support it.
