Morris, IL | So my new to me 9600 showed up this week have few questions about it. It is a late 1997 with 3k engine hours, like new tires all around, has like new kuchar concave in it and crazy good service records. Got it washed and waxed last couple days, it came from a great home and really shines like our 7720 does.
1. This machine has large Maurer hopper extension and Maurer extended fountain auger that is about 1” from fitting in our shop door. Wondering if anyone has ideas how I could shorten it up a bit or put some sort of electric folding system on it? Are these fountain auger extensions common? Never seen one before sure looks like will be nice in the field but it is really up there 15’ tall. Just a huge bin extension, monster with tip ups I think they are called.
2. What have others done as far as HID lighting? Was looking a bit today was thinking maybe the 4 outside on cab roof and the stubble lights. I didn’t know if switching the center lights to HID would be too much for road travel? When do those light in grain tank pointing outward turn on? Would adding backup light like 9610 has be worth it?
3. This machine has lot of 9610 upgrades and kuchar parts that were similar to 9610 upgrades. Hour meter has 2x read outs with concave readout, kuchar fan shield, kuchar concave inserts to pull air up feederhouse, but it doesn’t have the sundial shoe adjusters. I have them on 7720 are really nice setup. Has anyone put them in 9x00 are they worth updating?
4. Will be running a 930F and a 893 with it. 893 has calmer chopping knife rolls. Wondering how the reverser will like this setup? Can anything be done to keep it cool or will I be OK? I have heard of adding cooler under feederhouse should I consider that? Anything else that can be done, we always ran JD synthetic in ours on 7720 and changed it every year never smelt burnt but didn’t look great and that was just a 6 row.
I’m sure I will have more when I start looking more at the guts of this machine and have it inspected by our JD guy. Overall impressed it is huge machine when comparing to 7720. Seems like will be easier to work one seems less congested all in one area like 7720 was. I like all the spring loaded chain idlers. Seems like cab is kind of smaller then I was expecting, not as much leg room as 7720. Thanks in advance.
