Hastings, Florida | Had our annual small town " FALL FESTIVAL " last week, around 4,000 folks. This year I talked them into having a tractor show. Some of my fellow board members are city slickers, did not understand how our community felt about tractors. Now they do. New, old, big or small. used every day, completely restored-- any tractor. Have 2 local long- time dealerships, at one time had 5.Currently Kubota and Deere ( Ag Pro owned ). Asked them to participate, show new tractors, ( farmer and home-owner types, mowers, etc.) , and have salesman on site. For this we asked a $ 500 contribution to help defray expenses ( insurance, trophies, signage, etc. ).Kubota said sure, wrote a check, asked if we needed anything else. Ag Pro said " not in our budget " , but offered to display a tractor and salesman, not pay. I refused , told them other dealership was paying. One of the most asked questions at the show was where were the John Deere's. I told folks they said not in their budget. For over 50 years, before becoming part of the Ag-Pro group of dealers, our local Deere dealership was a very good neighbor and civic supporter. Always ready to help out our community. Seems like these big corporations forget about civic pride, helping the folks who keep them in business.
