Subject: Flightiness

Do you guys think this is a genetic or environmental trait or both? Reason I ask is I have a cow I bought as a 4 year old back in 2017 and I immediately saw why she was sold as she wants a comfort zone of about 100 yards and will make sure she maintains that. Never had her go through a fence or anything like that but still… On the other hand she’s been a reliable breeder, a great mother, and raised a great calf every year while at the same time I haven’t observed the flightiness in any of her offspring (perhaps the influence of the bull?). So what it boils down to is she has all the qualities a guy would like to keep in the herd except her temperment.. She had a nice looking heifer calf last spring and when it comes time to select replacements coming off wheat pasture this year I’m trying to decide if this calf is worth taking a chance on.
