Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana | From time to time the "What was the greatest invention in your lifetime" shows up on these boards. I want to add one............the corn planter monitor.
This came to me, as I was blinded by lights and deafened by audible alarms, the last day I was planting corn.
The transmission chain lost it's connecting link, had one in tool box, five minutes and I was rolling again.
I can remember trying to make sure the square shaft was turning at each end of the field, had painted opposite sides red trying to make it easier to see on a 494 Deere planter years ago. Always seemed that after you forgot for a few rounds, something went wrong, and you were digging trying to find where you had stopped planting.
Guess I just never thought of the monitor because they are so common place nowadays, but for now it gets my "Best Invention" vote.
