Mississippi Delta
Several months ago, I hired a new man as a "manager". You know, someone to help me out so I don't have to actually put my hand on EVERYTHING, and you don't have to worry that it is getting done the correct way. Well, through the interview process I found a guy that really fit the bill of what I was looking for. He assured me that he knew about everything that I was looking for in a man. I stressed on this place you really had to be a "jack of all trades", you know, know a little bit about everything. When we were trading on his salary he asked for X dollars/week. I told him that I would pay him Y dollars/week and after 6 months if he was what he said he was, I would gladly give him a raise. Well, looks like he is worth about.......Z dollars/hour. He doesn't know diddly!!! Simple things that someone would pick up after being AROUND a farm for the last several years he can't do or doesn't know about. He is the last one to the shop in the mornings, first one to leave in the evening, and always coming up with good ways to spend MY money (tractor trades, etc.). I just need to figure out what to do. Never have fired anyone, and don't want to have to start now. How does someone just lie about what he's done and what he can do? I could go on but I will leave it at that, thanks.
