Subject: Childhood cancer month

As most of you know we lost our son DaNNY to cancer on June 30th. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and most people aren't aware of it. Here are just a few facts. Every year 12,000 kids are diagnosed, thats 36 kids per day. One in five die from cancer or the side effects from chemo or the radiation. Thats enough kids diagnosed every day to fill an average school class. Only 3% of cancer funding goes for childhood cancer research, maybe because they can't vote. No new drugs for children have been developed in 25 years. They are given adult drugs in what doctors feel are kid doses. Everyone is aware of the pink ribbons for breast cancer but few know that gold is for childhood cancer. Can't tell you an exact number but there is like 28 different color ribbons for different cancers.

There is only a 30% survival rate in transplant patients. To bad DaNNY fell into that stat. Also the side effect from the chemo are secondary cancers, growth problems, learning disability, kidney and liver failure, and in DaNNY'S case heart failure.

My wife and I are just trying to get the word out in hopes that our loss may be someone else's gain. If you know someone who can help get funding for more reseach into new kid friendly drugs put a bug in their ear to get it done or get hold of me and we will contact them.

By the way I did spell DaNNY that way because thats the way he spelled it as he was just getting better at writing his name.

Hope you all have a safe and profitable harvest. Keep the kids and grandkids in a safe place. They are our most valuable crop!!!!!!!!!!!
