Faunsdale, AL | Any reason why the intakes aren’t oiling when I started this tractor after adjusting valves. Picture shows an intake on the left and an exhaust on the right. It’s only run 30 seconds max since I’ve got radiator out to fix water pump. But no sign of any oil coming up in any intake rocker.
#3 exhaust actually squirts up and hits lines that are more than 6” above the rocker, so it must be over the port next to the supply pedestal where the oil comes up through the head.
Oil on the intake rockers was put there by me with an oil bottle before cranking it since it’s been open for a while. It was opened up because I could hear valves leaking while cranking it over. Thought I might have had some debris in a valve after having to remove a broken spark plug. I fished everything I could get out with a magnet and blew the cylinder out with compressed air. Also chased the threads in the plug holes and resurfaced where the gaskets seat around the holes a little. One hole had been repaired several decades ago and was apparently sealed up with JB weld or rust and carbon that came out when I removed the old plugs. Now there’s no leaks I can hear and blowdown test with compressed air doesn’t cause any audible leaks from intakes or exhausts.
I did take the whole rocker shaft assembly off during this process, but did not disassemble it before reinstalling it and setting the valves. Wondering if I should take it back off and check it out because of the difference in the amount of oil on the rockers.
