Owensville, MO | Finished one farm of beans today and was moving to another when alarm goes off while on the road. Look over and oil pressure gauge is at zero. Got it off the road and shut it down. Maybe 15 seconds after alarm. My first thought was sending unit so I pulled it off and made some calls to locate a new one. Thought maybe I should check to be sure that is the problem so I had brother watch the sending unit hole while I started the engine. Started the engine and no oil. That's not good. Decided to try one more thing so I pulled the pressure line off the turbo. Started engine and again no oil. Oil level is full so now I'm thinking oil pump shot crap on me. Dealer says he thinks it's probably the suction tube broke off.
So now I'm looking for ideas on what it might be, also on what needs to be done to fix it. Do I need to pull the motor? Sure looks like it if I need the pan off. Could a keyway have sheered on the pump drive or something? I've been in lots of IH motors but not a cummins. If you guys can somewhat walk me through a few things I can get it fixed. If the motor has to be pulled is there any tricks I need to know about or just tear into it??
Also it is setting on the side of a gravel road about 3.5 miles from the farm. Would sure like to get it back to the shop if it needs major surgery. Any good ideas on how to maybe tow it back home other than a $1000 wrecker bill??
Thanks guys
