Subject: Retaining Heifers

So after being in the cow business for 7 years I am finally getting things paid off, I’ve got 55 cows, the first 6 years I ran a straight black angus herd, I bought some good horned Hereford bulls and have a good crop of baldies right now that I’m planning to sell all but 12 heifers. My herds age is getting up around the 9/10 area and am tired of buying other peoples leftovers. I think it’s gonna be financially painful for a couple years till I get this rotation rolling and get a good baldy herd established. I plan on putting back angus bull back onto the f1 baldies. Feed is not much of an issue when it comes to feeding the replacements. Just looking for some pros and cons from people who have experienced this dilemma. FIRE AWAY!
