Subject: Get your physicals people

S.C. Wisconsin
Dairyman 78's wife here. Ready to head to town soon as Dave has to have surgery this morning. He always gets a physical once a year, well this year he was slow at scheduling it. Suppose to be in April, well, couldn't get in until June, then forgot of it and scheduled a fishing trip so had to reschedule, and couldn't get in until July, nope, that wouldn't work had his Alaskan trip planned, so then couldn't get in until Sept.

Well, for the last 6 months he said he has been feeling old. OK, he is 62, so maybe that is kind of normal. Just didn't feel right, but kept working. But he thought, I'm getting old, next I noticed his memory was getting bad, red flags were coming up that I even told the kids that I was worried about early onset of the big "A", but he just said I'm getting old. Then the feeling of dehydration set in, again, I'm just getting old. Along with that, he had to pee all the time, hmmm, there he started to wonder. Dealing with some constipation, again, getting old. Then the kicker, hip/back pain and Dave usually never complains, but I could tell this really hurt. Walked with a clop and limp, is this all just getting old?

He finally got in for his physical and the next day the on call dr. called that his calcium level was really high, 12.8 and he needed to have a hormone test. Got that done and normal is 65 and his was 278. So next a scan of the parathyroid, that controls your calcium through your body. Scan showed a parathyroid gland that isn't functioning right. That explains all the symptoms he is having. The calcium is leaching out of his bones causing the pain. So the only thing to cure that is surgery. Hopefully outpatient. Wish him well, oh, it also explains any crazy posts that he has made in the last few months. Sorry about those...
