Subject: Using a mini bull for heifers?

I keep 100% of the heifers. I have been using red angus for everything and birth weight is great in heifers, but my yearlings aren’t what they were when I had a Hereford that made 80 plus pound calves. What would a mini Hereford bull do on heifers? He’s good size for mini and throws some pretty salty mini show cattle. He’s probably 1500# and fatter than I’d have him so maybe he would be 1200 after a year in my place. Halter broke and you could probably sit a child on his back. So he would be super easy to mess with. I’m thinking put the heifers in another pasture with this guy and go back to something with high birth and weaning weights. He’s cheap too. His owner doesn’t want to send him to slaughter.

I have a really good red heifer bull, but he’s also most of the said heifers father. I need some outside genetics, but don’t really know what I want. Today a live calf is sufficient, but in a few years we may be back to picky buyers and needing every pound.
