Kansas | I should be working ground.......but what the heck, I already missed half the day. What's a few more minutes ding donging around on the puter.
My Question for Today......
I took my gal and my youngest daughter with me today to put flowers on graves. Took us two hours. Every grave I told my little one the story about how they were related and who they were. Some were family members. Some were friends. 1 grave is clear in the back of the cemetary for a man that committed suicide back in the early 1900's and Grandfather would always put a flower on that grave when I would go with him at memorial time. He said the church buried the man back there for shame and Grandfather always said that was a crock of sh** and so he made sure that man had a flower every year so someone could see he wasn't forgotten and shamed like they had tried to do.
I put flowers on graves that go back 3 generations. I never knew the people but I know who they were and things that they had done that have influence on my life now as a farmer and having the parent and grandparents that I do and did.
How long does it take you to set out flowers? Do you tell your children the family ancestry along the way too? I'm trying to pass the torch along to my youngest. I hope this is something me and her can do till the day they plant me.
I can still remember from years past always making this trip with grandfather to decorate the graves. I'd be lying it I said, even after 8 years of time, that I didn't get a lil watery eyed putting the very best of flowers I could buy on his today. Damn I miss that man. | |
