Subject: How bad is a 1780 John Deere planter? vs White 6500?

The other day I saw a 16/31 1780 advertised for what seems like a pretty decent price comparative to other 40' planters.

How does the frame on a 1780 Jd compare to a 6531 White? They look about the same other than how the row units are attached to the frame.

If the 1780 is that bad of a planter that they sell at such a discount why would the Whites of the same configuration sell for so much more $?

How hard would it be to reconfigure a 16/31 into a 24 row 20"? Is there anything different about the frame of those two configurations or is it just a matter of taking stuff loose and moving it around?

How much tractor would it take to pull it as a 24x20"?  Would 150 hp 2wd have a chance? What about 150hp mfwd?

What would it need for hyd capacity to run without a pto pump? (Ground drive with E-sets) The one tractor is 22gpm @ 2400psi and the other is 27gpm @ 2700psi I believe.

Is going from a 6100 White (that we know and have gotten along good with) to a 1780 Jd a step in the wrong direction?

I think I'd rather have a 6500 White but this JD is a lot cheaper than any of the Whites that are listed on tractorhouse.  JD resale Laughing
