Subject: Spikes, 3" or 4" twisted on chisel plow?

Humeston, IA

I'm going through my father's JD 100 chisel plow to try some chiseling this fall.  It currently has spike points on it.  The spacing between shanks is 14-1/4" (out from 12" - I moved everything to compensate for 2 broken shanks).

Am considering putting 3" or 4" twisted points.  What has been your experience?  Which will turn more dirt and/or go deep? Thanks!
