Subject: Deutz Engine in a Bobcat Questions

Windom, MN
Dad just purchased an 873 bobcat to move snow and general farm duties. We have owned bobcats for years, but only the little ones. The one we used for ages is a 440B with an 18 horse gas engine, so this is a completely different animal.

Anyway, dad was using it today and the temp light came on. The way he described it to me was the red temp light was on and it started beeping. he was looking for the radiator and a place to put coolant in but couldn't find it so he talked to me. I told him it probably has a Deutz engine, but I know nothing about the Deutz engines in bobcats.

I went and looked at it, and sure enough it is a Deutz engine. My understanding is there isn't any coolant in these engines? It's all oil cooled and the oil runs through a radiator.

I was not dressed to really take a look at it today, but the little I did look it appears that on top by the screen there is a radiator that you can move and underneath there is another radiator. it looks like there is some dirt stuck in it, but it's not the worst I've ever seen. Then I bet there is a fan somewhere in there, is there a way to look at it to see if it's turning? again, was somewhat clean and didn't really want to crawl all over it looking for an access door. Also, is this fan run by a belt or is it electric?

So I guess my question is where to start. I obviously will blow out the radiator real good, but if it continues to overheat what is the next step? It has about 2600 hours, so is there anything that needs to be done now maintenance wise? I don't have a book, long gone, so I'm a little blind when it comes to this machine. thanks for any replies.
